Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to translate a patent?
It is our clients who define the time taken to translate a patent, based on their business dealings and on deadlines imposed upon them by intellectual property laws. We are fully aware that meeting deadlines is crucial. Accordingly, the workflow of the translation request, text formatting, translation, revision, quality control and delivery to the customer is an adaptable and sophisticated process that can be accelerated whenever necessary.
Do you translate any literary or scientific material?
We are professional translators of technical texts from the fields of science, business, law and finance, and intellectual property specialists focusing on patents.
Which languages do you work with?
We work mainly with Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Japanese, among others. We have a considerable network of translators and proofreaders so potentially we can meet your needs in any language. Please ask us.
Why does a patent have to be translated?
Because authorities require these documents to be filed in the local language. The holder of such a document will be granted certain official and legal privileges and rights which will be converted into values, markets and business interests.
Do you use MT? What’s the difference between MT and Google translator?
We do not currently use MT internally, but we do have the experience and ability to perform any post-editing MT services that our customers need. Google Translate and other MT tools have found a niche in the market as a cheap and fast way to transmit messages in multiple languages, but legal, technical and corporate documents, among others, require the assurance that the original message is kept confidential, preserved and understood by the reader. Even with today’s best MTs, this is only possible with human intervention.
