Dhalia Rajão - Founder
Professional translator graduated in Modern Languages, specialized in technical and legal translations with over 30 years’ experience.
Official Industrial Property Agent in Brazil. She has taken a range of translation courses and has worked as an Intellectual Property Professional for 15 years.
R&A Translators® (started in 1997 as Rajão and Athayde Translators® then shortened its name in 2020) has always realized that good translations don’t look as if they have been translated. Far from it. It is when you transpose the cultural background to the target language, at the same time respecting the linguistic preferences of each reader. It is the text which reads clearly and flows naturally.
Over 30 years ago, still a user of translation services and while reviewing technical and legal texts, Dhalia Rajão noticed that the words flowed nicely in some texts, while in others there were apparent errors which mangled the author's goals. She realized that some translations were mere reproductions of the original, without any commitment to the content of the document itself. They were so literal, that it made the text almost unintelligible. Others, in turn, captured the author's idea and transferred properly into Portuguese, thus providing a broad, open perception of its content.
Through her vast experience in both translation and Intellectual Property, Dhalia saw the need for a specialized translation company that could offer quality and punctuality, focusing on the accuracy of the terms used. In 1995 she embarked upon a self-employed career. She worked on several large projects with tight deadlines, leading virtual work groups and organizing teams at different geographical locations.
Next, a new stage begins: setting up the company.
